A new mile stone for Ton Dong A

2009 was a remarkable year of Ton Dong A as it changed itself from a limited company to a joint stock company to catch up the growth of the domestic and global economy.

The change aims at attracting investment capital and welcome shareholders who have good financial capacity, market expertise and management capacity. As a result, Ton Dong A achieved the higher performance efficiency and competitive advantages in the context of globalization. In addition, Ton Dong A’s privatization also offers chances to its employees to own the Company so as to facilitate their engagement and contribution for the further achievements. 

Ton Dong A increased its charter capital to VND 200 billion from VND 120 billion by issuing preferred shares to founding shareholders, key executives and qualified staffs. The Company plans to increase its charter capital to VND 300 billion from VND 200 billion by issuing shares to institutional investors in the third quarter 2011. It is expected to go for listing on Hochiminh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) at early 2012.

The capital increase targets at upscaling its operation by equipping the advanced production lines. The project of Galvalum Coil Coating Line started on 1st April 2008 and located at Road No.5, Song Than I Industrial Zone, Di An District, Binh Duong Province with production capacity of 100,000 tons per year and total investment of USD 10 million.

The above line was equipped on the new factory and warehouse with square area of 10,000 m2, I was also designed in accordance with the NOF technology, the most advanced technology in steel sheet production worlwide. Its supplier of key equipments is the largest steel producer in China which belongs to China government. The other separate equipment and automatic equipments were imported from Europe. The line is capable of producing the wide range of hard and soft steel sheet to meet the demand of civil construction and other advanced industries. 

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, General Director of Ton Dong A believes that the demand for galvalum products and color painted galvalum product is increasing, especially in the local market. Its production expansion is believed a appropriate step in its strategy, and ensure its supply capacity to meet the higher market demand for color painted galvalum product.

At present, Vietnam imports more than 200,000 tons of color painted galvalum products per year. The fact that Ton Dong A are capable of manufacture the color painted products will help to replace the import volume and reduce the trade deficit. In addition, the Company can export the steel to earn the foreign currency. The Project of Galvalum Coil Coating Line was operated at early August 2010, bringing the total capacity of Ton Dong A to 100,000 tons per year.

In parallel, the Company is investing in the Color Coating Line 3. This is another challenge for Ton Dong A as the line is one of the most advanced in the world that requires its technical staffs the excellent skills to master the technology. However, with qualified employees, management team’s will and appropriate strategy, Ton Dong A is confident to succeed in running the project and lay the firm foundation for the further growth of the Company. 

The above projects have strengthened the brand of Ton Dong A in the local market. The projects were also the important steps in the long term strategy of Ton Dong A to aim at providing the market with high quality products with the most modern and environment-friendly technology. The products made by Ton Dong A also helps to diversify the product range of Vietnam steel sheet industry, promoting the competitive advantages of the industry in the world market.

Apart from it key business activities, Ton Dong A also conducts its corporate social responsibility. At early July, Ton Dong A granted the amount of VND 130 million to support Mua He Xanh 2011 Program (Green Summer 2011 Program – one of the student activities nationwide) of Faculty of Material Technology, Hochiminh City University of Polytechnic. The amount was used to build up the concrete bridges 28 meter long and 2.4 meter wide in rural areas, social houses, contributing in the project of building rural road with length of 2,000 meters and width of 2.4 meters in Thap Muoi District, Dong Thap Province.

This is the fifth year Ton Dong A supported the Green Summer Program of Faculty of Material Technology in constructing concrete bridges. The total donation amount sums up to VND 397,8 million since 2007, in which VND 20 million in 2007, VND 62 million in 2008, VND 55.8 million in 2009, VND 130 million in 2010 and VND 130 million in 2011. The Company also granted 138 T-shirts and 74 hats to the students who joined in the program.

Ton Dong A has granted scholarships to students of Hochiminh City University of Polytechnic since 2009 with the quantity of 20 scholarship sets per year. This year, Ton Dong A will increase to 25 sets valued at VND 2 million each and VND 50 million in total.

Above are the meaningful social activities of Ton Dong A to improve life quality of people in remote areas. Green Summer Program also provides students with chances to communicate with companies and community and practical working experience. With such targets, Ton Dong A will participate deeply in the Green Summer Program, not only support faculty level activities but also at the university level, said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Chairman and General Director of Ton Dong A.
